UPPER LAKE — If you like the base on balls, Upper Lake High School was the place to be on Monday as the host Cougars beat the Potter Valley Bearcats 12-6 in a non-league softball game that featured 24 walks, 17 of them issued by Potter Valley pitching.
The two teams combined for only six hits.

Upper Lake (7-3) pushed ahead to stay with a five-run bottom of the third that snapped a 4-all tie.
Sierra Higgins went 1-for-4 with two RBIs for the Cougars.
Winning pitcher Courtney Gatton, 6-3, struck out 13 and allowed only one earned run.
It was not a pretty game, Kinser said. We only made three errors, but we did not play well.
The Cougars resume their North Central League I South schedule on Wednesday in Cloverdale, then hit the road again on Thursday to play St. Vincent. Both games start at 4 p.m.
Upper Lake”s scheduled home game with Clear Lake on May 2 has been moved to May 1.
