Please accept my appreciation for your participation on the celebration of Julie s life last Saturday, April 1. While it was a difficult time for us all, I think she would have been proud of how everyone came together peacefully in her honor. I also very much appreciate all the food and monetary donations made for the party, and to Rachel.

To the firemen, paramedics and hospital staff who were there that fateful night, thank you all for your efforts in trying to save her. No one would expect anything less those who devote their lives to saving others, but thanks nonetheless. I have no doubt my good friend received only the best of care from her colleagues at Sutter Lakeside Hospital, as well as from the paramedics and firemen, who she considered to be her friends.

Then there s those who kicked it into high gear when this tragedy occurred, taking care of all the time-consuming, boring details like getting donations, taking phone calls, organizing the schedule, and the list goes on and on. Becky, Leslie and Jen the three of you grabbed the wheel and worked together to make it a memorable, respectful celebration for one of the kindest, most generous, comical people any of us may ever know.

To the two bands who volunteered their time and vocal cords to the celebration, you guys rocked. Julie s Groupies was just what she would have ordered, and you may have noticed the Humboldt County table stayed until they kicked us out.

Renee, your peace necklaces were perfect. I m having trouble taking mine off. Leave it to Julie to inspire peace in a piece of jewelry.

Dr. Deas, I never did get the chance to say hello, but I did hear many, many stories about you (not all bad). It seems you entertained her as much as she entertained you. Thank you for your entertaining stories about Julie and her sometimes sick sense of humor.

And to all of you who came to talk to me after we had all said our words publicly, thank you so much for sharing with me what Julie had conveyed to you. There is no greater gift to me.

The celebration was wonderful and healing, and I just wanted to let you all know how much I needed to see and hear it all.

Rita Swanson,

Julie s Humboldt buddy
