KELSEYVILLE — Top-seed Dean Eichelmann of Kelseyville High School and Hannah Lane of Middletown High School easily defended their Coastal Mountain Conference singles titles on Tuesday as they both posted easy straight-set wins during the finals of the CMC Tennis Championships at Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa.

Eichelmann defeated No. 2 seed Miguel Orosco of St. Vincent High School 6-1, 6-0 in the boys singles championship and Lane beat No. 2 seed Linda Ulrich of Geyserville 6-3, 1-0 (retired) in the girls singles championship. Ulrich, a foreign exchange student, was forced to concede the match to Lane after experiencing a series of painful leg cramps early in the second set.

While Eichelmann and Orsoco were cleaning up in singles, Lake County players also claimed both doubles championships.

In the boys field, the top-seeded team of Andrew Davy and Ryan Kriken of Kelseyville had little trouble beating Shane Tipton and Kohl Hensler of Clear Lake 6-1, 6-0 in the championship match. The girls doubles finals offered a bit more excitement as Kelseyville s Jill Bailey and Lauren Nixon, the No. 4-seeded team beat the second-seeded team from St. Vincent 6-4, 7-5.

Bailey and Nixon advanced to the finals with a come-from-behind 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory in the semifinals. Davy and Kriken defeated Tyler Grenberg and Connor Jonas of Mendocino 6-3, 6-2 in their semifinal, while Tipton and Hensler knocked off Sam Carey and Keith Dooley of Willits 6-2, 6-1 in the other semifinal.

In the boys singles semifinals, Eichelmann beat Dylan Barnard of Fort Bragg 6-0, 6-0 and Orosco defeated Kelseyville s Keith Husley, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

In the girls singles semifinals, Lane blanked Angela Newell of Fort Bragg 6-0, 6-0 and Ulrich beat Fernanda Orosco of St. Vincent 6-4, 6-0.

Kelseyville won the perpetual team trophy for winning the most combined girls and boys matches (15).

It went great and the weather was awesome, Middletown coach and tournament director Tony Hart said of the second day of the two-day tournament.

Eichelmann and Davy-Kriken will advance to the North Coast Section Boys Tennis Championships on Friday. Nixon-Bailey are eligible to compete in the NCS Girls Tennis Championships next fall (the majority of the NCS s girls teams play tennis in the fall instead of the spring). Lane won t be eligible because she graduates from Middletown next month.
