I enjoyed reading Terry Knight?s article on Lake County?s outdoor travel spots ? ?You don?t have to spend a fortune to go here.? The Snow Mountain Wilderness Area, marked by great lakes, good hiking, and trout fishing, is just one example of our natural resources.
We also have an opportunity to permanently protect additional areas within Lake County for future generations to enjoy. The Northern California Coastal Wild Heritage Wilderness Act, sponsored by Congressman Mike Thompson, would preserve roughly 300,000 acres in the North Coast, including an additional 22,000 acres to the Snow Mountains Wilderness Area as well as 30,000 acres surrounding Cache Creek.
It is such a surprise to discover Snow Mountain hidden behind the city of Upper Lake. The Bloody Rock Trail in the Snow Mountain Additions is a great place for enjoying the beauty of Eel River canyon, ancient forests, deer, bald eagles and rainbow trout. And there are numerous trails through the Cache Creek area just off of Highway 20!
This truly is a chance to save our local wild places for endless summer vacations as well as preserve Lake County residents? healthy environment.
