UPPER LAKE ? The Northshore?s three school district boards are getting together today to explore how the districts can best communicate with each other and work together.

The trilateral meeting ? which will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Upper Lake High School library, located at 675 Clover Valley Road ? will include the boards of Upper Lake Union High School District, Upper Lake Elementary School District and Lucerne Elementary School District.

John Tomkins, board president for Upper Lake Union High School District?s board, said the boards will discuss one thing.

?We?re focusing on articulation, which is the communication between the three schools and trying to set up a better mechanism to make sure it happens on a regular basis,? he explained.

There are three public elementary schools ? Lucerne Elementary, Upper Lake Union Elementary and Upper Lake Union Middle School ? on the Northshore and one high school, Upper Lake.

In an editorial in Tuesday?s Record-Bee, Jerry Boudreaux, Upper Lake High?s superintendent, pointed to academic articulation and coordinating curriculum as necessities in order to address low test scores at the high school level.

?It is imperative, then,? Boudreaux wrote, ?that we consider low scores at ULHS in a K-12 setting.?

Tomkins said the board is seeking suggestions for how best to work together. ?We?re going to try to work out something that gives us immediate benefits.?

This may include having teachers from the different schools meet to discuss progress, he said.

Tomkins also suggested the boards might set up a schedule ?where we could meet more often and find out how we?re doing,? which would let them approach opportunities and challenges together.

The meeting is open to the public.
