LOWER LAKE — The Middletown Mustangs completed the first half of their North Central League I North softball schedule the same way they started it, with a win, on Wednesday in Lower Lake, where they beat the Trojans 12-2 in a game called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
In fact, Middletown also won all the games in between to make the turn at 4-0, one game better than Fort Bragg (3-1). The Mustangs also improved to 7-4 overall while Lower Lake fell to 1-4 in league and 3-7 overall.
Middletown scored in every inning and took a 12-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth.
Winning pitcher Nicole Scott scattered four hits and struck out 11, including the side in the fourth and fifth. Kamie Mederos worked the first three innings for Lower Lake and took the loss.
Scott also had two hits and two RBIs. Julia Leathers added two hits and an RBI.
Katie Munch and Kayla Behler had two hits apiece for Lower Lake, which had a tough time adjusting to Scott?s hard fastballs after facing a much slower pitcher a day earlier in a loss to Willits.
?It was like night and day,? Lower Lake coach Joe Parker said.
Middletown travels to Kelseyville today at 4 p.m.
