Al Sowins? letter of April 29 (?He should check his sources,? Your Opinion) stated ?There are no Biblical myths. Every word of Scripture is from the mouth of God.? Bearing in mind the many Bible translations and that everyone interprets passages differently, it is clear that the books were written by different people. Some of the writers were Joshua, Samuel, Peter (and others) but also the Gospels of the disciples Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

Granted God did have a lot to say but if every word of the Bible were from the mouth of God there would be no inconsistencies. For example in King James Version, the feeding of the 5,000 ? the writer of each Gospel wrote it according to how each remembered the event. Matthew states only the loaves were multiplied. Mark states the loaves were multiplied but not the fish, even though only the two fishes were distributed. Luke states he blessed the loaves and fishes and gave them for distribution ? it does not say whether he did or didn?t multiply the fish.

John?s Gospel is the most unclear. He states ?And Jesus took the loaves. And when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them who were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.? Sounds like he remembered as Mark did ? the two fishes were not multiplied.

There is also one myth. That of killing and eating animals. I will only say we are meant to be vegetarians. For those who wish to educate themselves there is a book called ?They Shall Not Hurt or Destroy? by Vasu Murti which points out the many mistranslated passages on the subject in many religions.

Of course, when Jesus returns I?m sure we?ll all learn the truth.
