At the April 6 regular meeting of the Lake County Democratic Central Committee, the committee passed a resolution supporting the public or mutual ownership of the county?s water resources.
The founding documents of this country guarantee certain unalienable rights endowed by our Creator. These rights include the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Adequate potable water is an indispensable requirement for these rights, the lack of which terminates life and therefore liberty and the pursuit of happiness as well.
The private ownership of water resources limits, restricts and could eventually deny adequate potable water to all but the most wealthy citizens of the United States. Private ownership of water resources is in direct contravention to our Constitution?s covenant to provide for the common good of United States citizens.
The Democratic Central Committee of Lake County endorses and supports the public and/or mutual ownership of Lake County water resources whenever possible.
The Lake County Democratic Central Committee requests that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Lake authorize and fund a study to assess the feasibility of creating a county wide Public Water Authority to acquire and/or replace the many private water organizations currently in control of ownership and distribution of the water resources of Lake County.
