ARCATA — It was a pretty good ride for a young Kelseyville High School golf team in 2006, even if that ride began on an ark during the wet months of March and April.
In the end, the Indians clinched the Coastal Moun-tain Conference South cham-pionship, which earned them a berth in the North Coast Section Championships on Monday at par-72 Baywood Country Club in Arcata.
Kelseyville, one of 20 teams in the field, needed to finish in the top 10 to continue its season, but the Indians, despite consistent scoring that was their trademark during the CMC South season, ended up 13th with 447. Middletown, the CMC South runner-up, was 16th at 469.
Earning a spot in next week?s Tournament of Champions at Redwood Empire Golf and Country Club in Fortuna were top-10 team finishers Justin-Siena (385) of Napa, Ukiah (387), Sonoma (390), Marin Catholic (397) of Kentfield, Branson (400) of Ross, Arcata (402), Cardinal Newman (403) of Santa Rosa, Urban (411) of San Francisco, Windsor (419) and Eureka (432).
?It was a very good year for a very young team,? Kelseyville coach John Berry said of the Indians, who lose only one player — Andrew Felperin — to graduation … and their Indians mascot (it will be replaced by another mascot yet to be determined).
Brent Hamilton fired the low round for Kelseyville at Arcata, shooting an 86, which was one shot better than Nick Schaefer?s 87. Felperin and Jonathan Bridges tied with 89.
Doug Quinones led Middle-town with 82, a round that included three birdies, and Mitch D?Amico was next at 90. Adam Bussdieker finished with 93 and Kurtis Crawford had 96.
Hamilton had two birdies during his round and Bridges and Schaefer one each for Kelseyville.
Low individual round went to Justin-Siena?s Jimmy Cacho at 1-under-par 71. His teammate, Austin Amaral, was at even-par 72, and Kirk Little of Ukiah was third with 73.
At-large golfer Peter Larson of St. Helena was 10th overall at 78 and will advance to next week?s TOC in Fortuna. Another at-large golfer, Kenny Hilger of Lower Lake, finished with 96.
