really help the U.S. economy
Why should any politician be concerned about the immigration protests? Illegal aliens do not vote. What is more ridiculous than a group of foreigners, criminals at that, attempting to insert themselves into our political process?
Many people argue that illegal aliens help our economy. Really? Since illegal aliens don”t have Social Security cards, they don”t pay income taxes. In fact, they don”t pay any taxes at all, except for sales tax, and even sales taxes are minimal since they send most of their wages to Mexico rather than buying consumer goods here in the United States. (Money from the United States is one of the greatest sources of foreign currency for Mexico, ranking either second or third, I believe.) Employers of illegal aliens do not pay workers” compensation or collect Social Security taxes or federal income taxes on these workers. Since the state is denied the money that these sources of taxes provide, the cost of government is higher for the rest of us.
Obviously, illegals will be cheaper to hire since the employer is spared many of the costs of citizen workers. Furthermore, illegals will be cheaper for another reason. They cannot use the normal labor channels to argue for higher wages. (During the days of Samuel Gompers, this condition was called “exploitation.” American workers had to work for decades to end the practice.)
Many argue that the exploited labor of illegals makes our farm produce and the other dirty, undesirable jobs much cheaper for the consumer. This might be true except the greatest number of jobs for illegals aren”t in these industries. Rather, most illegals are hired as housekeepers, day labors and such by individuals, not by companies or corporations. Almost every town has a place where illegals congregate in the morning, waiting for a passerby to hire them. Listen to Mencia on the Comedy Channel. This pool of labor provides a constant source for his comedy routines.
Illegals also create a number of social and law enforcement problems. Illegals use schools, emergency rooms and other government services without paying their fair share. They drive unlicensed and without insurance. When they commit crimes, they return to Mexico, knowing the Mexican government will not extradite them. These are just a few of the problems illegals either create or perpetuate.
In the interest of both our national sovereignty and simple common sense, we must ignore the protests of illegal noncitizens in our midst. At the very least, our borders should be closed, and those attempting to enter illegally should be treated as felons. Although large scale deportations of those in the United States should not be attempted simply because of the scale of the operation, when illegals come to the attention of government agencies, they should be arrested and deported.
This practice should be extended to all government agencies, including schools. (If school officials find this practice too burdensome, then the officials should seek another line of work.)
In sum, America is a nation of laws. We don”t allow citizens to break our laws without penalty. Why should we allow foreigners to do what is prohibited our own citizenry?
