LAKE COUNTY ? A poker run to raise money for cerebral palsy victim Jesse James Hosier-Villela, who is 4 years old, will be held Saturday, May 20.
The poker run will begin at 10 a.m. at the Buckhorn in Lakeport, go to The Brick Tavern, then D.J.?s Pizza in Lower Lake, The Driftwood Lounge in Lucerne and end at The Boathouse in Nice with a barbecue. Tickets are $20 per person and include a barbecue at the end of the event.
Organizers, including the boy?s grandparents, Glen and Kim Hendricks, will be selling raffle tickets with a grand prize of a one-week stay in a condominium in Maui, plus a one-week car rental. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.
Jesse James Hosier-Villela was diagnosed with a mild case of CP when he was 4 months old. Cerebral Palsy affects the body?s extremities and the nerve endings in the brain. Currently, he is unable to feed himself, sit, crawl, stand or walk independently and is unable to control his bodily functions.
The family needs to raise $8,000 to send Hosier-Villela for a two-week oxygen therapy treatment in Chico. The boy will be put in hyperbaric chambers, which are designed to restore the red and white blood cells in the boy?s body. With this alternative treatment, Kim Hendricks said there?s a good chance for Jesse to improve, although it is not covered by insurance.
If you?d like to help the youngster, donations are being taken at Lake Community Bank. For poker run or raffle tickets, contact Hendricks, 262-0813.
