Saving Detroit is in all of our best interest. Their stubbornness has cost them the title of world”s largest automaker, because they were too hard-headed to promote fuel economy. Though they are stuck with thousands of SUVs and Humvees, they can still make money and shine.
Recently, 60 Minutes aired a segment on a blend of ethanol, called E85, and stated that automakers had relatively inexpensive conversion kits. The biggest expense would be installing tanks in all their service stations.
As expensive as this undertaking would be, it is worth it because it is the only way to win the war on terror. We cannot win as long as we finance the terrorists by purchasing their oil. They do not have to educate their people until they need them to create a vibrant and rich society. Oil, like money, is the root of all evil. An educated population will no longer be easy to brainwash into blaming the lack of rain on America. An educated population will perceive the world with a positive frame of mind. Ignorance leads to paranoia and makes people into sheep.
Also, Americans in the Midwest need jobs. The government needs their tax dollars. Our country needs the automobile industry. If Brazil can utilize sugarcane to make ethanol for their automobiles, we can utilize corn or whatever.
Without American foreign aid, dependence on foreign oil is also crazy, because it keeps our national balance of payments deep in the red. Dependence on foreign oil is suicidal because it is a market-priced resource, and a capricious one.
Americans need to reassert themselves as leaders of the world, in global warming, in fuel efficiency and in common sense. We do not want the world to just think of us as imperialists, do we?
