KELSEYVILLE ? An 80-year-old woman and her 45-year-old daughter were arrested Saturday night during a country western concert after the younger woman attempted to take a deputy sheriff”s sidearm.
Emily Preston and Cindy Hickson, both of Middletown, were reportedly attending the Alan Jackson concert at Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa on May 20 when the resort”s security escorted them out of the outdoor amphitheater for causing problems with other patrons.
Security also called the Lake County Sheriff”s Office, which dispatched Sgt. Mike Morshed and K-9 Deputy Rich Ward. The two officers met with Konocti Harbor”s security director, Joseph Gliebe, who explained the situation with Preston and Hickson.
Morshed and Ward found Hickson and Preston seated in chairs just outside the entrance to the amphitheater, where security had placed them.
Both women were reportedly very agitated, and were screaming, yelling and refusing to speak with the deputies as they attempted to obtain information such as telephone numbers for family members who could take them home.
The daughter, Hickson, started laughing and claimed they would be fine and that the officers could leave. However, both she and her mother smelled strongly of alcohol and had trouble standing on their own.
While Ward spoke with Hickson, Preston started yelling, “Shoot me! Shoot me! If I run away will you shoot me?”
Hickson then suddenly lunged for Ward”s handgun with her left hand and was attempting to open the holster”s strap with her right hand. As Hickson was attempting to get Ward”s handgun, Preston began yelling, “Just shoot her! Just shoot her!”
Ward pinned Hickson against the wall as Morshed assisted in taking her into custody. Then Preston grabbed Ward and attempted to stop him from taking Hickson into custody.
Security personnel assisted LCSO by placing Preston in handcuffs while the deputies fought with Hickson.
Both Hickson and Preston were placed under arrest and transported to the Sheriff”s Detention Facility in Lakeport.
Hickson faces a felony charge for attempting to remove a peace officer”s firearm and a misdemeanor public intoxication charge. Preston is being charged with two misdemeanors, including public intoxication and resisting/obstructing/delaying a peace officer. Preston and Hickson have since posted bail ? for $500 and $20,000, respectively ? and have been released from jail.
LCSO reported a total of five subjects were arrested during the concert in unrelated incidents.
