MIDDLETOWN ? A Saturday afternoon head-on collision near Middletown resulted in two men being injured ? one seriously ? and a DUI arrest.
The California Highway Patrol reported that 19-year-old Gregory Jacobo of Fremont hit Aaron Tonglet, 29, of Lakeport head-on at about 4:45 p.m. May 27.
A preliminary CHP report noted that Jacobo, who was driving a 1999 Nissan Altima, was traveling southbound on Highway 29”s Coyote Grade at 60 mph when he crossed the double-yellow lines to the left and entered the northbound lane in an attempt to pass another vehicle in front of him.
Tonglet, who was driving northbound in a 2005 Dodge Durango pickup, also was traveling at about 60 mph, the CHP reported.
When Jacobo crossed into Tonglet”s lane, the two collided head-on.
The CHP placed Jacobo under arrest at the scene for felony DUI.
Both men were transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital via REACH helicopter. Jacobo sustained major injuries, while Tonglet”s injuries were reported as moderate.
The CHP reported that the two men were using their seat belts.
