LAKEPORT — With only two laps remaining, Darrin Knight of Kelsyville made an outside pass on Kyle Medina and drove to victory in the street stock division on Sunday night at the Lakeport Speedway.
In other action, Kenny Grinols was first across the finish line in the Guy Strohmeier Auto Center bomber division, but Jon Waner of Upper Lake inherited the win as Grinols” car did not pass a tech inspection; and Codi Barba of Windsor dominated and collected his first season victory in the Pro-4 modified class.
Street stocks
Knight began his outside run on lap 19 when he passed Sean Keown. He slipped by Chris Salmina on lap 24 and inched by Medina to take the win on lap 29. Medina settled for second with Salmina third and Keown fourth. Salmina set fast time of 13.717 seconds and Medina won both the trophy dash and the heat race.
Bombers
Grinols passed Waner in lapped traffic mid-race in the bomber main event as Jimmy Sorrels worked his way back into third place. Byers made contact with Abella and Abella slapped the turn two wall. This left Grinols out in front where he drove to the checkered. Waner was awarded the win during the post-race tech inspection.
Andy Norton finished second with Ron Portlock third. Abella nursed his car around the track to finish fourth and Roy Funderburk was fifth.
Sorrels and Portlock took the heat races, Norton won the trophy dash and Abella set the fast time (15.049).
Pro-4 modifieds
Codi Barba passed both Sarah Figueroa and David Estep on the first lap of the Pro-4 modified main. As Barba drove away, Joe Sloan was on the prowl, getting by Kevin Barba for third on lap five and passing Estep for second on lap eight.
The final 10 laps saw Codi Barba way out in front to claim his win. Sloan finished second ahead of Willie Leuzinger, Jake Tillman and Zack Gifford.
Figueroa and Sloan were heat race winners, Andy Leuzinger set fast time of 13.251, and Sloan won the trophy dash.
