CLEARLAKE PARK The public works department has taken on a priority project this week on San Joaquin Drive in Clearlake Park. Last week”s rains caused a portion of the road”s edge to slip down a steep embankment just south of San Joaquin Extension.
The public works crew began temporary repairs on the roadway on Tuesday, May 30 anticipating same- day completion of the project. Temporary repairs are being made possible with funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Funding will be sought for permanent repair.
According to Clearlake Public Works Superintendent Jim Hale safety is a major concern calling for immediate repair of the roadway. “The thing right now is to try to get the road back so school buses and other vehicles are safe,” Hale said.
Hale and his crew along with city engineer Bob Galusha were out at the site on Wednesday, May 31 assessing the situation. A primary concern in the project is keeping the road open during repairs as it is the means of passage into the Gooseneck area of Clearlake Park.
