In reading your article regarding the Kelseyville High School mascot vote on May 25, I couldn”t help but notice the significant piece of information that is missing ? a piece that Kelseyville residents have a right to know.
If these proponents of the petition for school board recall are successful, holding the recall election will cost the Kelseyville School District upwards of $10,000.
Regardless of where people stand on the mascot change, I hope all Kelseyville residents truly concerned about education can agree that money would be much better spent elsewhere.
School districts are struggling every day to provide students with everything they need, and want, from education like athletics programs, music education, tutoring, and strong academic and vocational programs that will prepare our children for the future, all of which could be sacrificed for a recall election.
The community voted these board members into office, and now we have to trust them to make decisions that are right for the community. Recall elections should be reserved for instances of serious financial negligence or the risk of student well-being.
Parents and those truly concerned with the education of children, I ask you not to put your name on that petition. Instead, stand up for students and truly put classrooms first.
