Bernice Vivian Haverty, 84, passed away June 4, 2006, in Clearlake. She was a 33-year Lake County resident. Bernice was born Nov. 30, 1921, in Oakland. She was very active in the Queen of Peace Catholic Church where she never missed Mass and served as a Eucharistic Minister.

She loved to dance and spent many nights at the Elks Club in Clearlake. Bernice also loved to play bingo and gamble and she ran hundreds of bus trips to Reno. Bernice was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Clearlake post No. 2337 and ran the bingo games at the American Legion. She was very active in the committee for the restoration of Austin Park. She and her husband ran bingo games that raised the funds for the park. Her time and efforts brought many good things to Lake County.

She is survived by son, Jim (Barbara) Haverty of Hidden Valley Lake; daughters, Sherry (Larry) Wearne of Canelo, Ariz. and Pat (Tim) Brink of Tualatin Ore.; grandchildren, Jim (Karen) Haverty Jr., Nick, Brian and Kelly Wearne, Stacy Mayhood, Jennifer Brink and great-granddaughter, Kelsea Larson. She is also survived by her caregiver for last five years and friend of many years John (Tony) Thorton of Clearlake.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Andrew Haverty.

A Rosary will be held 7 p.m. Friday, June 9 at Queen of Peace Church in Clearlake, Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10 at Queen of Peace Church in Clearlake.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Lake County.
