LAKEPORT — After a week off, the Northern California Racing Association modifieds and the L.A. Cruisers return to action on Saturday at the Lakeport Speedway.

Competition in the modified division is closer than ever because of the addition of the restrictor plates on the modified carburetors and the new Goodyear tires the cars are running.

Defending champion Terry McIntire is out in front in the points battle with 397 points. Tied for second place are David Furia and Bob Strauss each with 358 points, while Danny Bishop sits in fourth with 334, one point ahead of rookie driver Jonathon Reynolds.

The L.A. Cruiser points chase is even closer. Rick Bryant is out in front of Bob Strauss by only two points and defending cruiser champ Paul Lauenroth trails Strauss by three points.

Special to the speedway this Saturday night will be the inaugural NCRA Family Feud where family members will be competing against each other in a rival-type event that will run half the laps with one driver and half the laps with the other. Husbands and wives, fathers and daughters and brothers and sisters will all take part in this “for-fun-only” 20-lap race.

Gates open at the speedway on Saturday at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m. Call the speedway office at 274-2844 for more information.
