LAKEPORT ? In order to better serve the public, two branches in the Lake County Library system proposed an ordinance to change their hours, which was unanimously approved by the Lake County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

“We”re extending the hours in Upper Lake, adding 10 hours per week,” said Librarian Kathleen Jansen. The Middletown branch will adjust its Wednesday hours by both opening and closing one hour early.

Asked why the Wednesday hours were changing in Middletown, Jansen said, “We were having people show up at 1 p.m. but we don”t open until 2 p.m.”

Additionally, she said, “There just weren”t very many people using the library from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. So we wanted to change the hours to accommodate usage. It”s easier to remember if it”s always 1 p.m., too.”

The Upper Lake branch will now also be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays, making that library more consistent with the rest of the county branches.

All four Lake County libraries are closed Sundays and Mondays and soon all four will be open Tuesday through Saturday. The ordinance was advanced for a second reading and final vote on June 20.
