LAKEPORT — Terry McIntire has a strangehold on the modified division at the Lakeport Speedway.

The Kelseyville driver broke his own track record during qualifying and then worked his way from the back of the pack in the main event to post his third feature win in a row on Saturday night on the Lake County Fairgrounds” paved quarter-mile oval.

McIntire”s 12.628-second qualifying time broke his old record of 12.661. He now holds a commanding 46-point lead over David Furia.

In other action Saturday night, Richie Schramm of Nice broke up Mitch Preston”s winning streak in the mini-stock division, leading all 30 laps for the win, his first of the season; Andy North of Ukiah claimed his first career win in the Guy Strohmeier Auto Center bomber feature event; Rick Bryant of Lucerne powered past Paul Lauenroth to win his third main event in the L.A.Cruiser division; and the team of Michael Adkins and brother-in-law Adam Oubre claimed the win in the inaugural NCRA Family Feud.

Modifieds

The 10-car modified field was cut to nine when Jonathon Reynolds crashed head-on into the wall during the trophy dash. He walked away unhurt but his car sustained major damage.

In the main event, McIntire and Darrin Knight battled for the lead over the final five laps and McIntire finally gained the advantage on the white flag lap. He went on take the checkered flag in front of Knight, Furia, Bob Strauss and Jeremy Nowlin.

Mini-stocks

Schramm powered past Davey Coyne at the drop of the green flag with Preston on his tail in second place. The leaders began the lapping process early in the race but Schramm kept a two-car distance between himself and Preston while the leaders skillfully worked their ways past the slower cars.

Preston spun to bring out a yellow flag on lap 24 and spun again on the white flag lap but still finished second.

Preston won the dash and heat race and he also set the fast time (13.776).

Bombers

Norton inherited first place when early leader Ron Portlock had to retire to the pits with steering problems. Robert Byers and defending bomber champ Scott Griffin were right behind Norton. The race went non-stop from there and Norton took the checkered flag in front of Griffin, Byers, George Abella and Virgil Cokeley.

Abella regained the overall points lead with his fourth-place finish.

Heat wins went to Cokeley, Chuck Hackbarth and Wade Coleman. Abella won the dash and Sorrels set fast time (15.160).

L.A. Cruisers

Bryant moved ahead of Strauss and into the lead on lap 14, moved up high and stayed there the rest of the way for the win. Lauenroth dove under Strauss for second and briefly challenged Bryant for the lead but had to settle for second place. Strauss ended up third and Mike Smithhart finished fourth.

Strauss won the trophy dash.

Family Feud

The first 10 laps of the NCRA Family Feud were piloted by the more experienced drivers and it was Roy Funderburk taking the win followed by Byers and Jimmy Sorrels.

Then the race was stopped, the drivers got out and handed the driving duties over to their passengers. The starting order for the final half of the race was inverted from the finishing order after the first 10 laps, and it was Adkins passing David Rice on a lap-four restart to take the win.

Auto racing continues Saturday night with the first of two appearances by the West Car Late Model Series, which is making its first appearance at the Lakeport Speedway
