LAKEPORT ? At the regular meeting of the County Board of Education on June 14, Lake County Superintendent Bill Cornelison presented a letter of resignation effective Aug. 31.
Cornelison commented that, although his term does not expire until Jan. 9, 2007, he felt that the programs of the county office would be best served if the newly-elected superintendent, Dave Geck, did not have to wait six months before taking office.
The board then appointed Geek as the County Superintendent of Schools effective Sept. 1 to serve out the remaining four months of Cornelison”s term. Geek is currently the superintendent-elect having won the election on June 6.
Cornelison has served as the county school superintendent since 1995 and previously served as district superintendent in the Konocti and Middletown unified school districts. At the time of his retirement in August he will have spent 43 years in education, of which 27 were in Lake County.
He and his wife will continue to live in the county and he looks forward to teaching two classes in U.S. history at Yuba College this fall.
