
LAKEPORT — The WestCar Late Model Series makes its debut at the Lakeport Speedway on Saturday night, the first of two appearances by the series this season at the paved quarter-mile oval. The drivers will be running for the $1,250 first-place prize in the 75-lap Robinson Rancheria Resort and Casino WestCar Challenge.
WestCar points leader Troy Shirk of Oakley is still looking for his first win and hopes it will come at Lakeport. Runner-up Byron Gonzales of Carmichael was the winner of the first WestCar event at Stockton 99 Speedway. Roseville”s Eric Schmidt collected the feature win at Altamont.
Female driver Shannon Mansch of Roseville is the driver everyone is gunning for as she picked up her second straight WestCar Late Model Series win last weekend at Shasta Raceway Park in Anderson.
Mansch is the first driver in WestCar history to win back-to-back races. She is currently sitting third in the season point standings.
Other drivers expected to compete are Chris Montez from Stockton, Gary Glenn of Orangevale, Rick Lawlor from Sparks, Nevada, Paul Gunthmiller of Manteca, Kyle Cattanach of Redding and Melissa Davis from Santa Rosa.
The WestCar Late Models join the Pro-4 modifieds, mini-stocks and Northern California Racing Association bombers for a full program of auto racing. Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m. Admission prices are $11 for adults, $9 for seniors (62 and older) and students (12-17), and $5 for children.
