CLEARLAKE A former Lake County resident returned to court Friday to turn herself in for court-ordered evaluation.
Jeannette Ann Romo, 30, showed up at the Lake County Superior Court at 1:30 p.m. and was taken into custody. She will be transferred to the Central California Women”s Facility in Chowchilla, the largest female correctional facility in the United States, for evaluation.
Initially charged with 11 counts of felony sexual acts with minors, Romo took a plea bargain offered March 16 and pleaded guilty to one charge of felony sexual acts with a minor under 16, allowing the 10 other counts to be dismissed.
Romo was scheduled to turn herself in last Friday but had applied for a one-week stay, which was granted by Superior Court Judge Stephen Hedstrom so that Romo could finish litigation in a family law matter before being taken into custody for the court-ordered evaluation.
The family law matter has been settled, but court records are not yet available.
Defense Attorney Steven Tulanian has asked for probation. For that to be an option, Romo must undergo an evaluation by the California Department of Corrections which can last up to 90 days while she”s in custody.
Hedstrom has said in court previously that he would like to have the evaluation completed before sentencing Romo.
After the evaluation is completed, another date will be set for her sentencing.
