UPDATED:

ANDERSON SPRINGS A magnitude 3.2 quake shook Anderson Springs on Sunday evening, giving a modicum of relief to residents because it was not followed by any other quakes for several hours so they could go back to sleep.

“I had just gone to bed,” said Joan Clay, chair of the Anderson Springs Geothermal Impact Mitigation committee, “It was just one big boom.”

The temblor hit the area at 10:55 p.m. on Sunday, and generated 5.9 percent of one “g.”

When an earthquake occurs, the ground moves and is measured as Peak Ground Acceleration, which is calculated as a percentage of “g force.” One “g” is equal to the force of gravity.

Meriel Medrano, treasurer for the committee, reported that the quake shook her entire house, which isn”t unusual when a quake is centered at The Geysers near Anderson Springs.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey Web site, 16 people reported feeling the quake, primarily in the Middletown and Calistoga areas, but there were reports from San Francisco and Garberville as well.

On June 28, Calpine, on behalf of Geysers Power Company, is holding a public meeting for the members of the Anderson Springs and Cobb committee to talk about Calpine”s restructuring, the visitor center, seismicity at The Geysers, as well as an update on their community investment funds.

The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Calpine Geothermal Visitor”s Center, located at 15500 Central Park Road in Middletown.
