UKIAH — Curt Lawson went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs and winning pitcher Kyle Poloni went 2-for-4 as Kelseyville upset previously undefeated Mendocino 7-5 in Joe DiMaggio baseball action on Wednesday night at Anton Stadium in Ukiah.
Poloni worked the first five innings for the victory, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out six and walking three. Jaime Chavez picked up the save, striking out the only two batters he faced in the bottom of the seventh.
Ben Olson went 3-for-4 with three runs for Kelseyville, now 10-4. Ukiah fell to 13-1.
In action last weekend, Kelseyville split a double-header on Sunday at Willits and swept a doubleheader against Drake (San Anselmo) on Saturday in Kelseyville.
In Sunday”s action, Kelsey-ville won the first game 4-3 and lost the second game 22-12.
In the opener, Olson worked the first five innings for the victory, striking out eight and walking five. Joel Valencia went 1-for-3 with two RBIs to lead Kelseyville at the plate and Mike Duman went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
In game two, Lawson went 3-for-5 and Olson went 3-for-4. Other Kelseyville leaders at the plate were Valencia, who went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Duman, the losing pitcher, also had two hits.
On Saturday, Kelseyville beat Drake 4-1 in the first game and 7-1 in the nightcap.
In the opener, Poloni tossed a four-hitter and struck out 11. Mark Butler powered the offense with a three-run home run, a blast well over the wall in left field in the first inning. Cody Spaulding went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Poloni and Valencia also had hits.
In the second game, Butler pitched a three-hitter, striking out seven. Rich Rowland went 2-for-3, including a two-run home run to right-center field. Olson and Butler also added RBIs.
Kelseyville hosts St. Francis in a doubleheader Saturday that gets under way at 11 a.m. at Lloyd Larson Field.
