Lake County Sheriff”s deputies have arrested Kathryn Elizabeth McCallister, 46, of Lower Lake, on charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
At approxmately 12:30 a.m. Thursday, June 22, deputies responded to a residence in Lower Lake for a report of a male subject on the ground bleeding. Upon arrival, deputies learned that the victim, a 43-year-old male, had suffered a stab wound in the back. He was treated by responding deputies and medical personnel, then transported to Redbud Community Hospital. The victim was later flown by helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
Deputies interviewed McCallister at the scene and based upon evidence located at the scene, including blood, blood trails, a bloody knife and a lack of other occupants; arrestd her.
Initially, McCallister made conflicting statements as to how the victim was injured, indicating he had come home in that condition, then claiming she had been beaten by the victim who she later heard “fall down.” Then McCallister told investigators that she went to check on him approximately an hour after she heard him fall and discovered him on the ground bleeding. She denied knowing how he had sustained his injuries.
The victim was interviewed briefly by deputies at the scene prior to being transported to the hospital. He did not directly implicate McCallister, but made statements consistent with her being responsible. The victim was later interviewed by detectives Corey Paulich and Barry Clark at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. He told investigators he did not know how he had been stabbed, but admitted to drinking heavily before the incident and being involved in a physical altercation with McCallister.
The weapon, a 10- to 12-inch kitchen knife, was recovered at the scene. McCallister was transported to the Lake County jail and bail was set at $50,000.
