CLEARLAKE –? The Clearlake City Council filled its one vacant seat last Thursday with the appointment of a city planning commissioner.
Curt Giambruno was tapped to serve the two-year unexpired term left vacant with the recent resignation of Stephen Markham.
Giambruno, a retired businessman, is a 25-year Lake County resident, with 18 of those years spent in Clearlake. During that time he has served on several committees and commissions on both the city and county levels.
With his appointment to the council, Giambruno will be required to step down from his position on the city”s planning commission. He has served in that capacity for more than nine years and currently is the commission chair.
“With my basic background in the private sector and with the City of Clearlake, I believe I would bring to the council an additional breath of fresh air along with a supportive, positive attitude toward open government, good positive growth, positive support of our law enforcement department and to all departments within the city,” Giambruno wrote in the application he submitted to the council.
Along with his service on the planning commission Giambruno has served on the City Parks and Recreation Committee, the Economic Development Committee, the county Vector Control Board, Alcohol and Other Drug Services Advisory Board, the county Building Board of Appeals and the Countywide Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. He also has spent the past eight years volunteering with the City of Clearlake Code Enforcement Department.
Other applicants for the council seat included Gina Fortino-Dickson, Brenda Clark, Jeri Spittler, Roy Simons and Chuck Leonard. The council conducted an open interview of the candidates during Thursday”s meeting.
Following the interview session, the council voted as follows: Mayor Joyce Overton ? Curt Giambruno; Vice Mayor Judy Thein ? Chuck Leonard; Councilmember Bob Malley ? Curt Giambruno; and Councilmember Peggy Smith ? Brenda Clark. Following the initial vote, the council moved to appoint Giambruno, which was passed on a 4-0 vote.
Giambruno was sworn in immediately after Thursday”s vote.
