A vacant seat on the Clearlake City Council was filled Thursday, June 22 with the appointment of Curt Giambruno. Giambruno will serve the two-year unexpired term left vacant with the resignation of Stephen Markham.
Giambruno is a 25-year Lake County resident, 18 of which he has spent in the City of Clearlake. He has served on several committees and commissions on both the city and county levels. With his appointment to the council, Giambruno will be required to step down from his position on the city”s planning commission on which he has served more than nine years, including a current stint as chair.
“With my basic background in the private sector and with the City of Clearlake, I believe I would bring to the council an additional breath of fresh air along with a supportive, positive attitude toward open government, good positive growth, positive support of our law enforcement department and to all departments within the city,” Giambruno wrote in the application he submitted to the council.
Giambruno is a retired business owner and registered voter. Along with his service on the planning commission he has also served on the City Parks and Recreation Committee, the Economic Development Committee, the county vector control board, Alcohol and Other Drug Services advisory board, the county building board of appeals and the county-wide parks and recreation advisory board. He has also spent the past eight years volunteering with the City of Clearlake Code Enforcement department. Additionally, he has extended volunteer efforts toward the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce.
Other applicants vying for the council seat included Gina Fortino-Dickson, Brenda Clark, Jeri Spittler, Roy Simons and Chuck Leonard. The council conducted an open interview of the candidates during Thursday”s meeting.
Following the interview session, the council voted as follows: Mayor Joyce Overton ? Curt Giambruno; Vice Mayor Judy Thein ? Chuck Leonard; Councilmember Bob Malley ? Curt Giambruno; and Councilmember Peggy Smith ? Brenda Clark. Following the initial vote, the council moved to appoint Giambruno, which was passed on a 4-0 vote.
Giambruno was sworn into the position following the announcement of the appointment on Thursday.
