LAKEPORT — The 18th annual Kelseyville Lumber Deake Lyndall Memorial race takes place Saturday night at the Lakeport Speedway, where five divisions of race cars will be competing, including the Bay Cities Racing Association midgets, the Northern Calif-ornia Racing Association modifieds, street stocks, mini-stocks and bombers.
The special event is a tribute to the father-and-son team who lost their lives in an airplane crash on their way back from a racing event in May of 1989. Race fans are encouraged to wear purple, the team color of the Lyndalls.
The purses for all five divisions have been increased courtesy of Patti Lyndall of Kelseyville, wife and mother of the late Deake Lyndall Sr. and Deake Lyndall Jr. The Lyndall grandsons, David, Deake, Jacob and Brandon, will present trophies to the divisional winners.
BCRA midget driver Eric Mostin of Kelseyville won the event in 2004 and will be gunning for his second Lyndall Memorial win. Non-winged midget track record holder Brian Gard, also from Kelseyville, won the event in 2003 in a modified, and will try to collect the $1,000 first-place prize in his Kelseyville Lumber-sponsored midget.
A special treat for race fans will be the running of the purple No. 3 super modified and No. 3 stock car which were driven by the Lyndalls at Lakeport Speedway years ago.
Gates open for this tribute race at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m. Admission prices are $11 for adults, $9 for seniors and students and $5 for children ages 6-11. Children 5 and younger get in free. A special $29 family pass admits two adults and three children (ages 6-11)
