LAKEPORT — The “Mighty Midgets” of the Bay cities Racing Association return to the Lakeport Speedway on Saturday as part of the 18th annual Kelseyville Lumber Deake Lyndall Memorial classic.
Leading the way in the five-division racing program on the fast quarter-mile paved oval will be defending BCRA champion John Sarale of Stockton. Sarale will drive the same 360-horsepower racing four-cylinder Chevy-powered Beast midget in which he won the trophy dash at Lakeport in June.
Lakeport”s Eric Mostin returns hoping to reverse his misfortunes at Lakeport last season and in BCRA”s first appearance at Lakeport earlier this month. He won two feature races at Lakeport in 2004. Repairs have been made to the Gaerte-powered Beast since his accdent earlier this month at Lakeport.
Also expected to compete is former Kelseyville driver Brian Gard, now working and attending college in the Fresno area. Gard, who posted the fastest qualifying time during BCRA”s first visit to Lakeport, will drive the Napa-based Arata Brothers” Stealth.
Point leader Travis Berryhill, driving his “Spirit of American Canyon” Stealth/Fontana, should be in the thick of the action.
Other drivers expected are seven-time BCRA champion Floyd Alvis of San Carlos in his Stealth/VanDyne. The 71-year-old veteran won the most recent BCRA midget feature at the Reno-Fernley Raceway, his first win in nearly two years. And three-time champion Glenn Carson of Newark will be aboard the Bock Stealth/Esslinger.
Other entries include Eddie Abrew of Manteca, Ralph Cortez of Sacramento, Bill Lindsey of San Carlos, Mike Don-aldson of Pleasant Hill and Fresno”s David Prickett.
Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m.
