LAKEPORT — Aaron Jameson of Lakeport puts his undefeated record on the line against undefeated opponent Josh Hinkle of Oroville in a welterweight-division cage fight July 8 as part of the Gladiator Challenge “Deep Impact” round of fights at Konocti Vista Resort.
Gates open at 11 a.m. and fighting begins at 1 p.m.
Jameson heads the Team Submission Coalition out of Lakeport, a group of Lake County fighters, many of whom will be in action July 8 during the 15-fight card at Konocti. The winner of Jameson-Hinkle will be in line for a shot at welterweight champion James “The Educator” Fanshier at a later date.
Jameson is 3-0 in ultimate fighting competition. Hinkle, who fights for Team Fury, is the Gladiator Challenge”s No. 5-ranked contender.
“I know he”s a really good wrestler, a state contender,” Jameson said of Hinkle. “He”s well-rounded and he”ll be tough to beat.”
The 34-year-old Jameson believes that he”ll have a “strength advantage” and possibly “a technical advantage” over the younger Hinkle.
“He”ll have youth and endurance on his side,” said Jameson, a Jiu-Jitsu specialist.
Other members of the Submission Coalition who will be in action on July 8 include Manuel Rosas, Ed LaVelle and Tommy Boyles. They are coached by both Jameson and Louis De Los Santos, their boxing coach.
? Rosas brings 1-0 record into his 170-pound match against Jimmy Shipland, also of Team Fury.
? LaVelle (1-0), competing at 125 pounds, will fight David Suarez out of Yuba City.
? Boyles will be making his cage fighting debut at 155 pounds against an opponent yet to be determined.
“All the fighters are well-rounded, in tip-top shape and ready to represent Team Submission Coalition,” Jameson said.
