Mary Fern Olson was born in Cornish, Utah on April 6, 1916, to John E. and Ellen Harris. Our mother lived her life with great love and enthusiasm as a child in Utah and Texas with her three sisters and two brothers. Her brother John Robert Harris and his wife Kathy reside in Lakeport. Her sister Afton Felt resides in Provo, Utah. She married Leon Robert Olson on July 1, 1935, and truly was a guiding force in the lives of her son, Gary Lee and his wife Linda Olson from Lakeport and her daughter Mary Anne Lynch from Virginia. Her constant care and encouragement will forever touch the lives of 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
She excelled in so many ways throughout her school years in Utah at Provo High and Brigham Young University with strong interests in drama and literature. She enjoyed the entrepreneurial spirit with her husband owning and operating four “Robert”s” dress shops in Utah and California; later, changing careers as Dad became an agent with State Farm Insurance, and Mom entered the exciting world of real estate in Sunnyvale and San Jose, California until their retirements in 1982. She also enjoyed serving with time and talent in her church, especially with the youth.
They both continued a very active journey traveling throughout the world, playing, nurturing and encouraging their families while residing in Utah, Texas and California. They returned to Lakeport where she passed away on June 25, 2006. Our family is so blessed to have this beautiful spirit in our lives, forever.
