I appreciate the “Your Opinion” section in the Record-Bee. It gives persons like me (and all of us) the opportunity to express my/our feelings. It is a part of our First Amendment rights that is so important in making this great country of ours what it is today.
Some take advantage of the section to use it for their own platform of hate. Others use it for political purposes. Some use it to vent their emotional feelings. And some use it to simply try to get a message to the readers. That is, I imagine the intent of the section.
I have noticed that a lot of what is said is untrue or highly distorted. Most readers are intelligent enough though to see through these ploys or ignorance of the writer.
Some of the articles are ridiculous, making no sense at all. And a few are highly provocative, giving cause for the reader to deeply think about what was said. Just remember in reading these articles, that they are the opinion of the writer. Judge them accordingly, not always as factual or as the opinion of the majority. An open mind is a free mind. Don”t be swayed by emotion and, if in doubt, check it out. Don”t just take the writer”s word for it.

Editor”s note: Mr. Pursell has our thanks for putting it so well. So often readers think letters we print represent the paper”s opinion, or are completely factual accounts of certain events. They”re not. They”re opinions that belong to the person whose name is on each one, and they should be weighed with careful attention to each writer”s motivation.
