Let our president do the job that he was called to do
It saddens me to read some letters that demean our president. If you have young adults in your life, what are you teaching them? You need to channel all your negative energy into a positive one. Isn”t there enough chaos in this world?
We can start by praying for all those who run this country, those in authority, our military and our families. Satan fills minds with smoke, clouds and fog. Personally, I admire our president because he is filled with the love of God. Some people actually blame him for 911, tornados and hurricanes. Pray for God”s protection from terrorists.
As for myself, I”m so proud to be an American. I love my country, the land of endless opportunities. If our God is for us, who can be against us? I”ve been through many storms in my life, yet I feel so blessed. I don”t let negative thoughts poison my mind, or continue rehearsing all my hurts.
Let our president do the job he was called for. Pray for him, for God”s wisdom. Get the fear out of your hearts. God bless us all!

The people we rely on can”t afford to live in Lake County
A Tuesday, April 4 story in the USA Today real estate section reported that four in 10 new homes being sold are second homes for upscale retiring baby boomers with the goal of investing their corporate pensions.
The money in the loop of real estate investment is tightening. Young families and first time buyers at entry level are being shut out and denied a chance to enter the market and participate fully at the bedrock level upon which the building blocks of the American dream lie, home ownership. Second, third and even fourth homes are tagged “investment opportunities” and “tax shelters” for an increasingly insular and elite class of buyers.
Development proposals in Lake County are being presented as “resort communities,” “golf communities,” “equestrian centers,” “marina communities.” An equivocating label for second or even third homes for the well heeled.
Our own Lake County Correctional Officers are being priced out of the market, according to a recent newspaper article. ” In 2006, the average home price here is $299,950, an increase of nearly 215 percent since 1998 with a 30-year mortgage of more than $2,250 per month,” said Lake County Sheriff Rod Mitchell. The increase of property values in Lake County has priced even the highest paid deputy out of the market, Mitchell told the Lake County Board of Supervisors, which is one of the reasons that recruiting and retaining personnel is such a challenge. “We celebrate the increase in property values,” Mitchell said, “but there are costs to the community. One of the costs are job vacancies in the LCSD.”
When are we going to see homes built for the firefighters, the policemen, the nurses, the teachers, the local small business owners, the craft and trade workers who will build these homes for the boomer elite and then serve their privileged occupants? To paraphrase the Great Communicator, “The war on poverty is over. The poor lost.”

Jesus told us to repent and to love one another
Recently, I felt as angry as I did in 1968-1970 when certain Democrats were killing millions of Indochinese civilians and drafting my friends into killers. I joined the Navy to avoid the choiceless draft. Mistake!
Using the language of Hitler (“preventive war”), it seems Bush/Cheney want to nuke Iran. Millions more may die from this insane combination of domination, terrorism, bullying, greed and racist sadism. Sorry. The only preventive war that works is the struggle in a human soul to be loving and gentle when provoked. So I”m not exactly going to preach fire and brimstone here. I”m tempted, but even spiritual overkill can lead to backlashes and callousing of the soul.
We may “burn” spiritually for eons, but I don”t believe hell keeps us any longer than our attachment to sin. I do believe God wants to use what good we have left in us, especially when we are being purified. To accept this blessing, we need to feel the difference between our foolish, anti-productive worldly fears, and our necessary moral and spiritual fears. The following beliefs have helped me discern this difference:
? Worldly traumas due to our own pain and loss last no longer than our short mortal lives (like conventional weapons)
? Spiritual and moral challenges or traumas due to us causing or ignoring the pains and losses of others, do often last longer than our time on Earth. (like nuclear radiation)
? Any after-death carryover challenges occur because we are essentially souls connected in an ordered eternity and time-space. When we forget this or reject this, alive or dead, we are sooner or later reminded. We can give our sin or karma to Christ, and we will improve, but we will still undergo trials for our purification.
These beliefs help me search my soul and find that outer wars and weapons of mass destruction are not only unnecessary, but torturous to my spiritual and moral well being. The solution for me is not to nuke the nukes or the wanna-be nukers, but to trust God to melt my worldly fears with the hot Light of Truth, and to gently share loving salvation and warning as God leads. I remind those in office that Jesus said “Repent…and Love one another.”
