Erwin Lewis Jr., longtime resident of Lakeport, passed away in the early morning of July 4, 2006, at Sutter Lakeside Hospital. Born in Burbank, he had worked as a clinical laboratory technician at the Lakeside Hospital for over 50 years. His early years spent on a farm near Buellton cultivated a lifelong interest in gardening and the outdoors. After serving our country as an Army medical technician during World War II, Erwin studied at Pacific Union College in Angwin and received his degree in clinical laboratory technology from Loma Linda University. He was married for 59 years to Katherine Falconer Lewis, with whom he raised two children, Gerald Lewis (deceased) and Marna Lewis Sildve of Glen Ellyn, Ill.
Through his years spent in the Lakeport community, Erwin touched many lives. His practical wisdom, gentleness, humility and dedication to serving others were a powerful testimony to his deep faith. He was very active in the Lakeport Seventh-day Adventist Church, serving as head elder, Sabbath school teacher, and member of the Westlake Seventh-day Adventist Elementary school board. He also served on the board of Lakeside Hospital.
Erwin enjoyed travel with his wife and family. Whether camping in Yosemite or touring Europe, Asia or the South Pacific, Erwin”s sense of adventure and appreciation for diversity were an inspiration to his friends and acquaintances.
Erwin W. Lewis Jr. is survived by his wife of 59 years, Katherine Falconer Lewis; daughter, Marna Lewis (Peter) Sildve; grandchildren, Troy Kurtz and Lindsey Kurtz; sister, Lucile Lewis; brother, Glenn (Rose) Lewis; nephew, Gary (Toni) Lewis and family; nieces, Karen Lewis (Bill) Boyle and family, and Linda Lewis (Scott) Sayre; cousins, Jean (Don) Farris and Carol Dugger; and the extended Siri family.
A memorial service will be held at the Lakeport Seventh-day Adventist Church at 7 p.m. today, Friday, July 7.
