I have the following constructive criticism for the Record-Bee regarding its coverage of the recent homicide trial: The event of a homicide is newsworthy. A homicide trial is newsworthy, as is the conviction and the sentencing of the defendant. But, the gruesome details of the homicide do not need to be written about over and over again.
Blow-by-blow, day-by-day and witness-by-witness coverage of the trial is nothing short of sensationalism. Repeating the details of the death over and over again is voyeurism.
This type of reporting creates an impression that our county is crime-ridden, which it is not.
