Stanley Whitlock, born Sept. 29, 1910, in Pueblo, Colorado, passed peacefully July 3, 2006, at his Lakeport home. Stan came to California in 1934 on a cattle train. He and his wife Ila settled in Los Angeles where he was employed by Northrup Air Craft and then Douglas Aircraft, where he became chief inspector of all aircraft. In 1945 he and his family moved to Lake County where he and Ila purchased the old Echus Lake Ranch. There he farmed cattle and sheep, and grew hay. During the 1960s he worked for Lampson TV.
Stan was an avid hunter and fisherman. He got his first pilot”s license in 1919, built his own race car in the early 1930s and rebuilt a Waco airplane which he flew. Stan was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Lakeport and said many times that after marrying his beloved wife of 73 years the most important thing he ever did was receive Jesus Christ as his personal savior.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father; a brother, Robert; sisters, Myra and Mildred; grandchildren, Michael and Melissa; and his dear wife, Ila.
Stan is survived by his two children, Joann and Harry; six grandchildren, Ron, Mark, Kenny, Joseph, Donny and Niki; and six great-grandchildren, Rhema, Rebecca, Erin, Randee, Chrystal and Jacob.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, at Hartley Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 10, at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, 1625 High St., Lakeport.
