Henning Peter Lindeblad, “Big Papa”, born March 22, 1917, on the Lindeblad ranch in Scotts Valley, passed away peacefully this past Saturday, July 8, 2006, at home on that very same ranch surrounded by family and loved ones. He was a resident of Lake County his entire life aside from his time spent in the service. He served in the Air Force during World War II in the Aleutian Islands. He loved his life”s work serving the farmers of Lake County as equipment manager of Westlake Conservation District.

Henning was loved and admired by all who knew him throughout his lifetime. He worked hard to provide a wonderful life for all his family. His greatest pleasures were family times, good food, good whiskey (known to him as the essence of gigglism), playing poker with family and friends, hunting the great outdoors of California, Nevada, Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming and Alaska, and trips to the coast for abalone. He had an enormous capacity for love and gave so much of himself to everyone. People have come from all over throughout the years to enjoy his presence, his vast knowledge of Lake County and agriculture. A great “man among men” who lives on in memory.

Henning is survived by his children, Mark and Linda Lindeblad, Gary and Denise Lindeblad and Randi Cherry; 10 grandchildren, Mandy, Scott, Shaun and Lynette Lindeblad, Gary and Todd Strong, Juston, Kimi, Brandt and Nicole Cherry; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in his death by his wife, Phyllis Lindeblad; mother, Thora Lindeblad; father, Peter Lindeblad; and brothers, Irving, Stanley and Buddy Lindeblad.

A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, July 13, for friends and loved ones at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, 1625 N. High St.

A private family burial will commence Friday morning after which guests are welcome to join the family in celebrating his life in the afternoon at the Scotts Valley residence.
