LAKEPORT — The rodeo is over and it”s time for auto racing to return to the Lakeport Speedway. The drivers had a week off and are anxious to return to the track Saturday night, especially the Legends Cars of the Pacific Series.

The Legends Cars last raced at Lakeport during the INEX Spring Nationals held Memorial Day weekend.

Legends cars are a “spec” modified class with 5/8-scale bodies. They are modeled after the legendary NASCAR modifieds driven by Fireball Roberts, Curtis Turner, Buck Baker, Speedway Thompson and Banjo Matthews. Most cars resemble 1937 through 1940 Ford, Chevy and Dodge coupes and sedans.

Northern California Rac-ing Association divisions competing Saturday are the NCRA modifieds. bombers, street stocks and mini-stocks. Racing begins at 7 p.m.

A week from Saturday, the speedway hosts the final appearance of the WestCar Late Models as well as round two of the “Eve of Destruction” boat races race cars dragging boats around the wet one-quarter mile oval asphalt track is a spectacle everyone should see.

Gates open for the races at 5 p.m. Admission prices are $9 for adults, $7 for students (12-17) and seniors (62 and older), and $4 for children (6-11). Kids 5 and younger get in free.
