Doris Marie McCoy Beaman passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, July 4, 2006. Devoted wife of the late Dale Robert Beaman Sr. Cherished mother of Dale Robert (Gail) Beaman Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev. and Debora (Jack) Pasisz and Douglas Beaman of Petaluma. Beloved grandmother of Jason Beaman (Laura) of Missoula, Montana; Barbra Meadows (Tom) and Ken Beaman (Missy) of Las Vegas, Nev.; Ginny (John) Deegan of Mountain Home, Idaho; and Derek Pasisz and Laura Pasisz both of Petaluma. Great-grandmother of seven. Age 76 years,
Doris Beaman was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Jan. 14, 1930, to Charles and Mary McCoy. Doris was raised in Philadelphia and attended Overbrook High School. She was an excellent student, and after school and on weekends she spent many hours working alongside her parents in their neighborhood grocery store.
In 1947, when Doris was just 17 years of age, she met 19-year-old Dale Beaman when Dale was with the United States Navy, stationed in Philadelphia. They fell instantly in love, and after only a three-week courtship they married in Elkton, Maryland, on May 24, 1947.
They moved from Philadelphia to California in 1956, living in the Salinas area, where Doris worked as a nursing assistant at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. In 1963, they relocated to Sonoma County, living in Petaluma and Rohnert Park. Doris worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse at Hillcrest Hospital in Petaluma until her retirement. In 1991, they moved to Middletown in Lake County, and returned to Petaluma in 2002. They enjoyed 56 loving and happy years of marriage before Dale”s passing in 2004. Doris adored her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of the things she loved doing most was to cook large and delicious meals for her family to enjoy.
Doris was a wonderful listener, and her warm, welcoming home was always open to anyone who wanted to stop by for a visit, a cup of coffee, and one of Doris” delicious desserts. She was generous, compassionate, and caring, and these qualities made her an exceptional nurse.
She loved taking trips to Reno, and thoroughly enjoyed playing slot machines. Doris will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends. Funeral services were held on July 8.
