HIGHLAND SPRINGS — Firefighters were able to contain a 10-acre vegetation fire that broke out at about 4 p.m. Friday just west of Adobe Creek at Highland Springs Road in Lakeport.
Matthew Lee, a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection fire prevention specialist, said the blaze burned 10 acres of grass and oak woodlands.
The firefighting force that responded, said Lee, included one air attack plane, one helicopter, three air tankers, two bulldozers, a crew of 17 men from the Konocti Conservation Camp (jointly operated by the California Department of Corrections and CDF) and seven fire engines.
Lee said one structure was threatened, but was saved and the fire was contained at approximately 5:15 p.m.
Firefighters faced approximately two hours of cleaning up the smoldering areas by extinguishing and removing the burned material in order to make the area fire safe and to reduce residual smoke, Lee added.
The county”s Department of Public Works issued a road closure alert at East Highland Springs Road and placed signs and barricades in place to alert the traveling public of the need to use alternate routes.
