BERKELEY — The Lake County Special Olympics track and field team recently attended the Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games at the University of California, Berkeley.

The three-day event kicked off with the final leg of the Northern California Law Enforcement Torch Run, which brought law enforcement officials from throughout Northern California. Athlete Susana Avila ran the 3-mile leg with officers as Lake County”s representative.

The Lake County Lightning Bolts track and field team spent the weekend at the Berkeley campus dormitories and attended several special events. Lake County athletes were Beth Buchholz, Megan Adkins, Charlene Gonzalez, Eric Saderlund, Joshua Osborne, Billy Oubre, Jason Souza, Daniel Cooley, Richie LoDolce, Dennis Cooley and Cori Van Eck.

Competing in running events 50, 100 and 200 meters and field events long jump, shotput, softball throw and turbo javelin throw the Lightning Bolts won 14 gold medals, eight silver and two bronze.

Team coaches were Ernest Woodson, Lois Woodson, Lance Woodson, Beau Woodson, Drew Woodson and Robert Saderlund.
