EcoArts of Lake County is pleased to announce the Friday, July 21 and Saturday, July 22 film line up for the Coyote Film Festival, Lake County”s only independent film festival, under the stars at Langtry Estate & Vineyards, 21000 Butts Canyon Road in Middletown.
In keeping with the non-profit mission statement to bring visual arts opportunities to Lake County, Coyote Film Festival will highlight local filmmakers for the next three months. July presents Lake County”s Eric Clow. Clow was the 2006 graduating class valedictorian at Middletown High School and is also a 2006 Star of Lake County “Student of the Year” with many accomplishments to his credit.
Clow”s three award winning short films; “It”s Just Us, Taking a Stand While Sitting Down,” a documentary highlighting three icons of the independent living and disability rights movement; “Go Howl on the Road,” a look at the San Francisco Poetry Renaissance and the connection to the Beat poets who came before them and “Thunder and Wolves” explores the European impact on California Native Americans from the Mission era through the Gold Rush with special emphasis on Lake County”s Pomo population and the massacre of Bloody Island.
“We are thrilled that Eric will be on hand for both Friday and Saturday night”s showings and we”ll offer a Meet the Filmmaker” question and answer session for the audience,” said Karen Turcotte, director of EcoArts of Lake County, which sponsors the Coyote Film Festival.
In addition to Clow”s short films, the Coyote Film Festival will offer two line drawing animations by Aaron Hughes. The first is “Petunia” and the second is “Fred”s Box.” These animations have been voted “audience favorites” at festivals across the U.S.
The festival”s main feature is “How to Draw A Bunny,” the award-winning story of artist Ray Johnson”s extraordinary death and the realization that those who knew him, really didn”t know him! Was his final exit a performance piece?
Doors will open for general admission at 7 p.m. and the $12 tickets can be purchased until dusk when films begin. Langtry Estate and Vineyards (formerly Guenoc Winery) will have its tasting room open during the festival. Lots of seating is provided and there is a lawn to put blankets on. Popcorn and water are available from Coyote. Wine, soda and other beverages will be available in Langtry?s tasting room.
“It”s really magical to be under the stars, watching film on a big screen,” continued Turcotte. “Langtry”s grounds offer a beautiful venue and having the tasting room open makes it extra special.”
Animations will begin at dusk, followed by short films and a “Meet the Filmmaker” session. There will be an intermission before the main feature. “If you believe that cultural activities are important to Lake County, come out and join us!” said Turcotte.
