LAKEPORT — It”s a racing doubleheader on Saturday night at the Lakeport Speedway, with the West Car Late Model Series and round two of the “Eve of Destruction” boat races on tap.

It”s the second and final appearance of the West Car Late Models at Lakeport this season. The fastest growing Late Model touring division in California, the West Car drivers will be running for $1,250 to win during a 75-lap feature. More than 20 drivers are already entered.

The “Eve of Destruction” boat race features race cars dragging boats around the race track. The idea is for Cruisers, bombers, destruction derby-type cars and other race cars to try to dislodge the other guy”s boat. They can bump, ram or even drive through a competitor”s boat. And to make it even more exciting, they”ll be competing on a wet race track.

It”s known as a rolling destruction derby and the winner will be declared when the last car is left with a boat in tow. If more than one car is left with a boat, the race fans will choose the winner based on the level of excitement that driver generated.

Also running for Northern California Racing Association season points will be the Guy Strohmeier Auto Center bombers and the NCRA mini-stocks. The boat race is a points race for the L.A. Cruiser division.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m. Admission prices are $11 for adults, $9 for seniors (62+) and students (12-17), and $5 for children.

Call the speedway office at 274-2844 for more information.
