This letter is in reference to the fate of the water park, Outrageous Waters. I am wondering what our mayor”s, City Council”s, city hall”s and our Parks and Recreation Department”s plans are for providing a new activity spot for the youth of Clearlake with the grim future of the water park to become a new retail area.

I understand that the job of our City Council members and mayor is to represent this fine community by providing services to the residents of Clearlake and I feel that the youth of Clearlake are clearly lacking services outside of school.

We have one park now, Austin Park, and the new play equipment is wonderful; however, there is no lifeguard on duty. Redbud Park play equipment was removed and replaced by a parking lot. The Big Brothers and Sisters building needs major repairs before it can provide services and now Outrageous Waters will soon be replaced by a large retail development. I am concerned with the continued displacement and struggle of programs that wish to support youth activities. It seems that our Parks and Recreation Department should be as interested in providing areas of recreation for youth as they are in providing services at our dump.
