Though I was grateful to see a picture of Jerry Boudreaux (by Cynthia Davis, June 30), retiring superintendent of Upper Lake Union High School District, I felt that he was not given enough recognition for his contribution to the Upper Lake schools.

Jerry began his career in Upper Lake as Upper Lake High School vice principal for five years. He finished his career here as the superintendent for two years. My late husband, Tut Harville, met Jerry when he first arrived in Upper Lake. Tut and I always felt that Jerry put out extraordinary effort to help improve student success in the classrooms and the quality of after school programs.

After his retirement, Jerry is planning on spending his much-deserved time off in retirement on his horse/cattle ranch in Oregon with his wife, Jeanne.

In my many years of working and supporting the teachers, coaches and administrators in Upper Lake, I have always found it to be important to celebrate the success and achievement of our school”s leaders.

Combining an honorable man”s career achievement with the struggles of education locally and statewide was a poor way to bid our superintendent farewell.

I appreciate all of the effort Jerry Boudreaux has given to the thousands of children he supported in his career.
