mangled by boat propellers

Weekend before last I fished two dead grebes from the lake and found another, still alive, lying on the beach, slowly dying from severe injuries to its left wing and leg. Both of the dead grebes had probably drowned after being cut up by a propeller.

I took the live grebe to the wildlife rescue center where the wonderful volunteer had to euthanize it to save it from further suffering.

I understand that this is happening to hundreds of grebes this summer. The grebes do not dive fast or deep enough to escape the propellers and the boaters may not even know of the damage they are doing.

My hope to make boaters aware of the suffering their boats can do to these wonderful birds.
