Jane Thanx will be one of the Lakeside Writers Guild authors reading her work from the new anthology “Reads,” at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10 at the Lower Lake Coffee Company, 16187 Main Street in Lower Lake.
Thanx said, “Lower Lake Coffee Company feels like sitting in my friend”s living room. I”ve spent many hours at their cozy table by the window sipping lattes and writing in my notebooks. At home, when I get stuck blankly staring at my computer screen wondering what the heck I”m going to write next, or find myself wanting to clean my garage, anything but write, I can drive down to the coffee shop, be greeted by friendly faces, new sights and sounds, and feel inspired to write again. One of these days a character in one of my stories will plop herself down at a table in a place just like this, order a latte and begin her adventure. My writing begins from my own life experiences and then like any good story teller I embellish the truth.”
Other Lakeside Writer”s Guild authors reading at Lower Lake Coffee Company that evening will be Fran Ransley, Laurelee Roark and Linda Drew. The guild is presenting its newest creation “Reads: An Anthology of Writings by the Lakeside Writer”s Guild.” A total of eight local authors are represented in the book, which also includes work by Hal Z. Bennett, Melissa Drew, Richard Schmidt, and Susanne Scholz. You may recognize many of these names for their previously published work in and around the county.
In addition to the readings, information will be provided about how the seeds for this new anthology were planted during a seminar at the Lake County Arts Council, the strong sense of friendship and community that sparked the group”s talents and the role of best-selling author and editor Hal Z. Bennett, who led the group and encouraged them to self-publish. For more information about the anthology, contact the Lakeside Writer”s Guild at 707 391-7725.
