Maxine Tompkins, longtime Lakeport resident, passed away August 5, 2006, at the age of 84.
She was born July 11, 1922, in Amarillo, TX to H.S. and Clyde Durham. Maxine graduated from Morse High School and attended West Texas State College. When World War II began, she left college, moved to Washington D.C. and worked for the war department.
Maxine”s sweetheart since the seventh grade Truman Tompkins proposed to her via telegram. They were married Nov. 3, 1942, in Yuma, while Truman was on leave from the military. They were married 62 years.
Maxine was retired from PG&E. Maxine and Truman enjoyed traveling, whether it was a short trip to Albion with friends or to Alaska to see the grandkids, with a fishing trip thrown in, just for the “Halibut.” Maxine is preceded in death by her husband, Truman Tompkins.
She is survived by her sons, Dan, Ted (Marcy) and K.B. (Tracie); sisters-in-law, Rae Pyatt of Albuquerque and Carol Tompkins of Foster City; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
